Christopher D'Olier Reeve (New York, September 25, 1952 – Mount Kisco, October 10, 2004) was an American actor, director, producer and activist. His most famous role was that of Superman, which he played in a series of four famous films, starting with Superman (1978), for which he was nominated for a BAFTA award. Reeve appeared in other critically acclaimed films such as The Bostonians (1984), Street Smart (1987) and The Remains of the Day (1993). He received a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Golden Globe nomination for his performance in the telefilm Rear Window (1998), a remake of the classic of the same name, released in 1954.
